Gene Franchini Mock Trial Regional Competitions

EXCEPT IN 2012 WHEN THERE WILL BE ONLY ONE STATEWIDE EVENT IN MARCH, Northern and Southern regional competitions take place in February in Albuquerque and Las Cruces, respectively. Teams are generally assigned to regions based upon their school's geographic location, but if an uneven number of teams is registered in a district, a team may be randomly selected to go to a different region.

Regional competitions consist of four rounds: two on Friday, and two on Saturday. Each team is guaranteed to present each side of the case (prosecution/plaintiff or defense) at least once.

At the conclusion of the four rounds, results are calculated and awards are presented to the top teams in each region. Individual awards are also given to any student who is selected by a judging panel as an outstanding witness or attorney.

Note: Receipt of a regional team award does not necessarily mean a team will be one of the teams that advances to state finals. How many teams advance from each region will be based on each region's percentage of the total number of teams competing.

Southern regional results are hand delivered the day after the event by the volunteer coordinator. All regional results are confirmed prior to being posted on the CCV web site, generally within 48 hours after the competition.

After regionals, teams will receive by mail copies of their official ballots.

Regionals are usually held on the last Friday and Saturday in February.
