The Rules consist of three sections: the Rules of the Competition, the National High School Mock Trial Rules of Evidence, and, the Forms. Except where otherwise indicated by italic type, the New Mexico rules are consistent with the rules used at the National Championship.

• The Rules of the Competition explain how the competition is conducted what the judging criteria are, how the power matching scoring system works, time limits and much more. 

• The National High School Mock Trial Rules of Evidence explain the evidentiary issues that arise in mock trial, and they have been simplified for use in the program. 

• The Forms section includes the official mock trial ballot, time keeping materials, outstanding attorney and witness nomination forms and explanation of the judges' responsibilities.
