mock
trial nationals . . .
The national
championship is hosted by a different
organization in a different city each year
in May. This fun-filled and
exciting event draws students, parents,
teacher advisors, attorney coaches and
judges from across the country. The 2011 national championship is scheduled in
Phoenix, Arizona, and is predicted to
draw between 40 and 46 competitors from as
far away as the
the Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and South Korea.
On April 1, teams receive the
nationals case, an original problem
developed by the host state. They
have about five weeks to prepare for
competition, which consists of two rounds
on Friday, two rounds on Saturday and a
final round between the top two teams,
also on Saturday. (The championship round is
videotaped and distributed on DVD to all
registered teams at the New
Mexico mock trial training in the fall.)
Results are announced at an awards banquet
Saturday evening.
CCV hosted the
1998 national championship, which drew
nearly 1,000 people to
Albuquerque for five days and is slated to
host the 2012 championship. The 2012 event
will be cosponsored by the the State
Bar of New Mexico.
